BharOS is developed by JandK Operations Private Limited (JandKops), a company built by iIT Madras. .It uses the mobile OS Android Open Source Project (AOSP) as its base layer, which means that even though the India-based company has worked on BharOS, it is not entirely manufactured in the country.

The folks at jandKops are looking to team up with government agencies and private industry to update BharOS on more devices.
